Property description

The farm is 53 kilometers (km) (33 miles) east of Cape Town via the National N1 freeway and 4 km (2.5 m) from Stellenbosch. Stellenbosch is South Africa's second oldest town and is sheltered in a valley at an average elevation of 136 m (446 ft).

The current third family generation owners have anticipated this sale as the next generation do not wish to farm. Looking forward to their retirement years, they have not taken full advantage of alternative income generating options or embraced marketing and the latest AI trends. This provides the buyer with untapped, innovative tourism opportunities.

 1. Should the family’s planning have been to keep the farm, their focus would be extending wine tourism and events.

- The farm location is unique –
it is nestled in the Hottentots-Holland Mountain range, with views of the valley, wine farms and False Bay Ocean with a suburb of Stellenbosch neighbouring it. The farms position is the first farmland after an existing suburb - it could not be in a more ideal location as an easy to access tourist attraction. The access road onto the farm is paved and easily navigated by both compact vehicles and tour buses alike.

- The farm represents an accurate reflection of SA wine making heritage, dating to 1914 when the farm’s winery and cellar were built. The story telling of wine making and its history is an unexplored opportunity. The farm can leverage from being in the heart of the pioneering area of wine tourism with Stellenbosch being the primary location for viticulture and research in SA.

- The laidback and peaceful atmosphere provides the perfect authentic South African farm experience while watching cattle graze, listening to working farm noises and sipping award winning wine.

- The restaurant specializes in traditional SA fare called a “Boerebraai” – (a SA barbeque) where food is cooked on an open fire burning old vines. Dishes include “boerewors” (boer is a farmer and wors is sausage); “pampoenkoekies” (pumpkin fritters); “roosterkoek” (bread baked in cast iron pots on an open fire); “braaibroodjie” (barbecued sandwiches filled with cheese, tomato and onion). A classic dessert of malva pudding and campfire coffee end the meal. This is a unique, bustling restaurant offering that should be extended in seating and hours of operation, as reservations are booked well in advance.

- The farm has a wedding venue with its own kitchen facility and a fully equipped conference room.

Additional, new tourism possibilities include:

 - Host small-scale festivals, wine & music weekends, art in the vines, yoga & wine, sporting events such as running events. It would be popular to create tour bundles with other nearby farms or adventure activities (e.g., wine + horse riding or mountain biking).

Pop-up events: Partner with chefs, artists, or DJs to bring new crowds. Host craft and seasonal markets. Outdoor movies are increasingly popular.

Business functions could include team building, board meetings, and incentive events. Harvest experiences and become
a "Winemaker for a Day" - invite guests to select grapes, stomp them, and blend their own wine. Facilities to blend and cork your own wine are available and can be put to full use.

- Sunset or moonlight vineyard tours with curated wine tastings can ensure visitor attraction during day and evening
time.

- Tractor tours through the farm with picnic baskets.

- An animal touch farm for children can be established.

- Wine & food pairings hosted by chefs (e.g., tapas & wine, chocolate & wine).

- Picnic experiences with local produce and scenic vineyard spots.

- There are three air BnB cottages to provide for overnight stays. As guests are averse to driving after an event, providing more overnight accommodation is another source of expansion. Think about making your farm a weekend destination partnered with exclusive offers of tourist attractions in town. Spa experiences - Think of wine-infused treatments or outdoor vineyard spa baths.

2. Existing Winery & Cellar can be put to full production.

- The now fully equipped 1300 m²cellar was built in 1941, with extensions in 1998.

- The total red wine production capacity is between 150 and 350 tons annually. The cellar can host up to 300 oak barrels (225-litres each).

- Over many years of wine making, grapes sourced from neighbouring farms continues to be the preferred method.

- The award winning wines produced will continue to be exported/new contracts established to Germany; Dubai duty free; Namibia and Holland. This is a longer term income generating focus.

3. Crop cultivation

- With fertile soil, sufficient water, resident farm labour and community upliftment opportunities cash crop cultivation is easily possible.

- Now as all the grapes are outsourced, planting vines represents another opportunity for expansion on the 38 hectare’s (ha); (94 acres) of farmland best suited to support vines.

- The farm has a temperate, Mediterranean climate with an approximate annual rainfall of between 600mm – 800 millimeters (mm) (24 -32 inches) per annum.

4. Animal Husbandry

- There are 36 head of Red Angus cattle and one bull on the land. This is currently operated as a hobby and presents yet another expansion opportunity.
